A Radical Diasporist Seder Plate (Waters)
Bud - Waters - Wheat
Miknaf Ha’aretz is delighted to be collaborating with Jewish ceramicist Amy Wilson on a Seder Plate Project for Passover 5785. Amy has created an extraordinary series of Seder Plates inspired by the revolutionary chutzpah at the heart of the Passover story and the earth-based roots of this springtime-shepherding-harvest-pilgrimage celebration.
Each Seder Plate will come with a supplementary guide delving deeper into the earth-based, radical roots of Passover made by Miknaf Ha’aretz.
There are three unique Seder Plate designs each one representing a different aspect of the Passover tradition - bud, waters & wheat.
Waters
From Red Sea: April 2002, Aurora Levins Morales
This time we're tied at the ankles.
We cannot cross until we carry each other,
all of us refugees, all of us prophets.
No more taking turns on history's wheel,
trying to collect old debts no-one can pay.
The sea will not open that way.
This time that country
is what we promise each other,
our rage pressed cheek to cheek
until tears flood the space between,
until there are no enemies left,
because this time no one will be left to drown
and all of us must be chosen.
This time it's all of us or none.
This design was inspired by Aurora Levins Morales poem. The power of the waters as shared and uniting, rather than as dividing, as our rageful tears for collective liberation, powering us on and washing over the land. The bowls are the colour of the earth with the white crust of evaporated salt water.
Price
Sliding scale: £150 - £175 - £200 - £250
This price reflects the time and materials needed to produce the really beautiful and unique pieces of art, that we imagine can be used over a lifetime (and generations). We imagine these seder plates being shared and used by radical Jewish communities across the UK (and costs being shared by a community), as well as individuals and families who want a unique addition to their Seder Table. Proceeds will also be going to farmers in Gaza and across Palestine to support food production in this critical time. If the costs still feel too prohibitive, please get in touch to see if we can find a way to make this work for you!
Excludes postage (currently only shipping to the UK).
If you are interested in purchasing a seder plate but living outside the UK, please contact hello@miknafhaaretz.co.uk.
